My Writing The Secret Of Change - 853 Words
Socrates once said: ââ¬Å"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.â⬠Though this quote can be applied to many aspects of life, it is also true about me as a writer. Throughout this school year I have made many changes as a writer. I have improved greatly as time has passed and I have learned from my mistakes. At the beginning of the year I had little knowledge of what a thesis statement is, and what I thought I knew was wrong. Also, I used no transitions between my thoughts and ideas. It made so my ideas did not flow well. The introductions to my essays were vague and undetailed. This made my papers confusing. Altogether, my writing did not sound good. Now I have made changes to my writing through my thesis statements, use of transitions, and introduction paragraphs. As the year has gone by, my theses statements have improved greatly. At the start of the school year, I did not know what a thesis statement was. In ââ¬Å"Summary-Analysis of Give the Girls a Break by Nancy Gibbsâ⬠my thesis was: ââ¬Å"She took a wholly different view on it than mostâ⬠(Moine). This is not a thesis. It did not tell what I was going to write about and was quite vague. If a reader just read this statement they would have no idea of what the paper was about. This could be a sentence in any essay about any topic. The reader does not know who ââ¬Å"sheâ⬠is or what ââ¬Å"itâ⬠is. The entire purpose of the thesis is to describe what the author is going to be talkingShow MoreRelatedAnalysis Of `` Under The Influence `` By Scott Russell Sanders Autobiography1583 Words à |à 7 PagesWhen we analyze Scott Russell Sandersââ¬â¢ memoir ââ¬Å"Under the Influence,â⬠using the notion of betrayal Patricia Hampl establishes in her memoir ââ¬Å"Othe r Peopleââ¬â¢s Secret,â⬠we discover that ââ¬Å"Under the Influence,â⬠rather than being a breach of trust, is instead Sandersââ¬â¢ attempt to redeem his drunkard dadââ¬â¢s character.
